Healthy Communities Practice Guide

The guide, from the Canadian Institute of Planners, is designed for planning practitioners to help them in their work towards healthier communities, and to increase the understanding of the supporting role that health practitioners can play in reaching our common goals. It provides a framework for considering the interconnected aspects of a healthy community, and includes practical examples of how others are accomplishing their goals.

Healthy Schools and Communities Resource Database

PARC is presently seeking physical activity resources in French for our Healthy Schools and Communities Resource Database. Resources can either be based on evidence-informed practice or tools that have aided in your community’s success. This database has been developed to provide you with access to a variety of helpful resources to support your work in the area of healthy schools and communities. This fully interactive, searchable database has been populated with resources from public health, community health, sport and recreation, and other community partners as well as resources from Ophea.

Canon’s Take Root Program: Presented by Evergreen

Canon's Take Root Program, a stewardship and restoration program sponsored by Canon and led by Evergreen, provides funds of $5,000 and a Canon PowerShot camera to community groups across Canada carrying out tree-planting projects in September 2012 in celebration of National Tree Day.

Linking the Arts to Environmental and Sustainable Development

In 2010, ASEF commissioned research to investigate good practices connecting the arts to initiatives tackling environmental sustainability issues in a number of Asian countries. Titled "Linking the Arts to Environment and Sustainable Development Issues", the research project aimed to carefully document case studies that can not only provide inspiration for networking and collaboration between Asia and Europe in this area but also aid policy making and planning.

The Alberta Rural Development Network (ARDN) wanted to make sure rural Alberta didn’t get lost in the shuffle so they asked every MLA from the five major parties – Alberta Liberal Party, Alberta New Democratic Party, Alberta Party, Progressive Conservative Party, and Wildrose Alliance Party – the following questions on rural development: 1) Why do you think we should invest in our rural communities? 2) What role do you see the government playing in rural development? 3) What do you consider to be the biggest barrier to rural development? How do you think this barrier should be addressed?

2012 Recreation Volunteer Recognition Awards

Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation and the Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation (ASRPWF) join forces with the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) every year to bring Energize to Alberta's recreation and parks community. One of the highlights of the Energize Workshop is the Recreation Volunteer Recognition Awards. The awards are presented to four Albertans, who are recognized as leaders in developing and delivering recreational programs in their communities. Nominations are are being accepted until June 22, 2012.
