Residency - Vinok Worldance

Posted on: Mar 08 2010

Take advantage of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Artists and Education Program and book your Vinok Residency! This grant program subsidizes the Residency fee. The deadline is April 1, 2010

This exciting 5-day program provides an immersion into the beauty of world culture through performance, dance lessons, live music, and demonstrations.

The week begins with an introduction to culture through three activities – a performance, an interactive costume display with our dancers, and an instrument demonstration with the musicians. The performance of World Dance & Music from Europe and Beyond is a holistic introduction to world culture – seeing and hearing it live in performance. The intimate demonstrations allow students to see the detail of Vinok’s beautiful costumes and experience a range of unique musical instruments. The remainder of the residency is devoted to interactive and enjoyable folk dance classes with Vinok’s experienced performers; a kinesthetic approach to learning about culture. The Residency culminates in a “sharing” where the whole school gathers and the students show each other what they have learned.

Vinok’s Residency is an excellent complement to the curriculum – Social Studies, Music, Dance, Visual Arts, Drama, and Physical Education.

The Residency is eligible for funding through the Artists and Education Program administered by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.

“They encouraged students to work within their comfort levels, gently challenging them to raise the bar, while continually reinforcing the message to each one of them that they had rhythm and the potential and co-ordination to learn new footwork, to dance”. Anna Fialka – St. Matthew Elementary School, Edmonton, December 2008.
