ACE Communities is pleased to congratulate John Wort Hannam on his Juno Award nomination in the ROOTS & TRADITIONAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR: SOLO category for his album ‘Queen’s Hotel’. Alberta-based Wort Hannam has been working recently with ACE Communities on its Alberta Rural Talent Showcase (ARTS) Tour.

Juno Award winners will be announced Sunday, April 18.

The ARTS Tour is an opportunity for communities to come together to celebrate and grow local talent as ACE Communities believes that fostering arts, culture, and heritage will make all communities better places to live, work and play. But the ARTS Tour is not just another program! It will be a hands-on opportunity, supported by long-term strategies meant to inspire community members to be active, creative, and engaged. The goal of this initiative is to seed an interest in the arts and then feed this interest through training opportunities, access to resources, and sustainability strategies.

Upcoming ACE ARTS Tours:

Hanna: May 17 – 20
Frog Lake: May 26 – 29
Longview: June 2 – 5

*John Wort Hannam Bio*

For five years John Wort Hannam taught grade 9 language arts on the largest reserve in Canada – The Kainai Nation, part of the Blackfoot Confederacy. But, in 1998, he bought a guitar and learnt some chords and, four years later, he quit teaching and began to pursue the dream of being a working musician. John Wort Hannam comes from a long line of people who make a living using their hands. His great-great grandfather drove horse and buggy for the village doctor. His great-grandfather was a stevedore, his grandfather a farmer, and his father still works as a master carpenter. Wort Hannam now carries on the tradition of making his living writing songs and playing music. He independently released his debut CD “pocket full of holes” in 2002 and his 2nd CD “Dynamite and ‘Dozers” in 2004. His third CD “Two-Bit Suit” was released by Black Hen Music in the spring of 2007. In May of 2009 John went back in the studio and recorded “Queen’s Hotel”. This authentic Canadiana folk/roots music CD will be released this October. Wort Hannam is currently based in Edmonton but also has ties to Fort MacLeod, AB.
