Be first to launch the groundbreaking ACE Communities ARTS Tour!

Have you ever marvelled at the musical talent in your community?  Or wondered how to tap the artistic potential of children and adults and grow it for the future? Do you value the contribution arts makes to your quality of life and want more of it in your community?

ACE Communities – active, creative, and engaged – an initiative of the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) in cooperation with the Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta are seeking host communities to help debut our groundbreaking Alberta Rural Talent Showcase (ARTS) Music Tour.

The ARTS Tour is an opportunity for your community to come together to celebrate and grow local talent as we believe that fostering arts, culture, and heritage will make all communities better places to live, work and play.

The ARTS Tour is not just another program.  It will be a hands-on opportunity, supported by long-term strategies meant to inspire members of your community to be active, creative, and engaged.  The goal of this initiative is to seed an interest in the arts and then feed this interest through training opportunities, access to resources, and sustainability strategies.

If selected, your community will benefit from a 4-day tour that will include free workshops held by professional Alberta-based artists in song writing, instrument playing, and dance and movement.  These workshops will be geared towards both children and adults and customized to the meet the needs of your community.  The tour will culminate on the fourth day with a public concert including the workshop participants as well as the professional facilitators. Along with the workshops and the live concert, communities hosting the ARTS Tour will also have an opportunity to participate in events like an Open Mike Night or a Song Circle.

The total value of this 4-day tour is over $10,000.00. In exchange for the professional artists who will provide the workshops and performances, ACE will be asking each community to provide: (1) a venue for the workshops and performances (public spaces like churches, community halls, or schools are excellent examples of potential facilities), (2) suitable accommodation for the 4-5 artists who will stay in your community for the 4 days, and (3) their main evening meal each day. Priority will be given to smaller communities who have not previously worked with the Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta.

You provide the passion and enthusiasm and we’ll provide ongoing resources, learning opportunities, and support!

The Active, Creative, Engaged Communities (ACE) initiative, spearheaded by Alberta Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA), is designed to enhance quality of life in rural Alberta by strengthening community leadership, collaboration, and innovation through recreation, parks, arts, culture, and heritage. It is made possible as the result of generous support by Rural Alberta’s Development Fund (RADF), EnCana, and Canwest.

The deadline for expressions of interest regarding the ARTS Music Tour is Monday November 9, 2009 at noon and notification of a conditional acceptance will take place on November 16, 2009.  Please more information as well as potential tour dates see http://acecommunities.ca/images/uploads/ARTSMusicTourEOI1.doc
