AFA seeking Aboriginal Arts Consultant

The Arts Branch is a dedicated team, committed to promoting and supporting Alberta’s vibrant arts community. We are currently seeking a highly motivated, well-organized individual to provide consultative and informational services to a broad range of aboriginal and community arts sector clients. With demonstrated experience in Alberta’s Aboriginal Arts Community, the ideal candidate will bring an awareness of traditional and contemporary arts practices.

The successful candidate will assist in consultations with the Aboriginal Arts community (including the presentation of public informational sessions regarding AFA programs), and will coordinate delivery of programs and services designed to serve the Aboriginal community and its constituents. This will include the Alberta Future Leaders – Arts Camps component and the Traditional Aboriginal Arts Individual grant stream. General grant consultations will also take place with individual aboriginal artists in all discipline areas.

You will work with Branch administrative staff in a team environment, tracking program budgets and helping both existing and potential grant clients with applications and program selection. Your well-developed interpersonal skills will enable establishment of professional contacts at provincial, inter-provincial and national levels, to stay up to date on aboriginal and community arts issues and provide recommendations for program policy and development. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential as is comprehensive working knowledge of the arts in Alberta.

Qualifications: University graduation in a related field and 2 years of professional experience in the arts is required. Experience in the areas of consulting, budgeting, management of projects, issue analysis and resolution, client relations, fundraising and marketing is preferred. Some experience in music and/or sound recording is required. Experience with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the ability to work in English, French and Cree is an asset. Equivalencies will be considered.

Salary Range: $1,163.91 - $ 1,526.67 bi-weekly (approximately $30,378 - $39,846 annually)

Notes: This is a 0.5 part-time position. This position requires the ability to travel and evening and weekend work. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification level. This competition may be used to fill current and future vacancies in the Government of Alberta. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
